Lottery Information

The enrollment window for the 2024-25 school year's lottery spans from Dec. 22, 2023, at 8 a.m., through April 30, 2024, at 5 p.m. The lottery draw is scheduled for May 3, 2024. Families will be notified of their placement on that day and must confirm their offered placement by May 10, 2024. 

To apply, please submit your student's application online.

Any student in grades TK-8 may apply for the lottery. The first step is to be sure that your student is registered at their home school through AERIES. More information can be found here. Once that is in, you can complete the lottery application through SchoolMint. The only exception to this is if you do not live in Vallejo. If this is the case, please email Danielle Brever at dbrever@vcusd.org for specific instructions.

You may complete the lottery application any time before the deadline, which is usually the end of April. About a week after the deadline we run the lottery, check for errors and then notify families. You will receive a text and/or email (whichever you chose when you set up your account) and you will be required to respond within a week. If you do not respond in SchoolMint or contact Danielle Brever, your offered spaces will automatically decline and will go to the next student in line. This means that you will no longer have that space and would have to reapply to be added to the waitlist.

First priority is given to children with siblings already attending the school so that we can do our best to keep families together. This is for siblings only; not cousins, family friends, neighbors, etc. This does have to be verified by school staff before we run the lottery.

Next we have priority for any employees with children at the school site, followed by any employees within the Vallejo City Unified School District. After that we hold the general lottery for all students in Vallejo, followed by any applicants who live outside of Vallejo.

Yes, you can apply for any of the lottery schools. Each application is attached to one school. If you have preferences, you can rank your applications to let us know your ranking choices.

We keep waiting lists on a spreadsheet if needed for every site and grade level and SchoolMint also keeps track and tells you your place. As other families accept and decline placements, you will see your number change. If you remain on the waiting list for the entire school year, we will check in with you to find out if you would like to have a spot for the upcoming school year and will give you priority if there are spaces available. We know that people move all the time due to housing, new jobs and other family situations, so we are happy to work with you if you are interested in our lottery schools upon moving to Vallejo. Please contact Danielle Brever by email to find out if there is space available dbrever@vcusd.org.

Not a problem! Not every school is the best fit for every child and their family so if you are feeling like it’s not working out, we can help you get into your homeschool if there is space, or you can apply for a transfer to another school in the district that has space at that grade. Just email Danielle Brever and we can work from there dbrever@vcusd.org.

Yes, all entering students must have a lottery application on file in order to reserve a space. This ensures that we don’t miss anyone in the enrollment process.  Please complete the online registration in AERIES and then submit the SchoolMint application. Please be sure to select the sibling application option so that we can verify it and then assign priority to the application.

This happens sometimes as families learn more about our lottery schools so please just reach out to Danielle Brever at dbrever@vcusd.org to see if there is space available. If so, we can add your student and if not, we can add them to the waitlist.

The window to accept applications ends near the end of April, with the specific window listed on the district website. It does not matter when you submit your application as it is a lottery, so everyone is included in the lottery when it runs in the beginning of May. Your chances are not better if you submit the application early vs. right before the deadline.
